Education
I am a student at the University of Nevada, Reno, and I’m studying business marketing. This is my 3rd year in this major and I am enjoying it. This is my first semester at UNR, and I am loving it, the school, campus, city, and people are great. I transferred from Montana State University, where I had a lot of fun skiing and made some good friends, but I decided I wanted a change, so I came here. This semester my favorite class is Information Systems (IS)101. I knew it would be my favorite class from the first lecture when we talked about the components of a computer, like the CPU, GPU, and memory. I have always been curious about building a PC, so I related to this class immediately. The main focus of the class is understanding and applying the different functions of Microsoft Excel. It’s a very confusing application at first and it has so many functions, but the work done in IS 101 helped me understand it. In the bottom right corner of this website, there is an AI widget. If you are curious about the work we do in IS 101, you can ask the AI to answer any questions about Excel.
Background
I was born and raised in Connecticut, where my father taught me, my older sister, and my older brother how to ski, golf, and play soccer. Skiing has been our family activity since I was 2. Growing up, I was always curious about the states around the west coast of the country. Now that I’ve lived on the east and the west for some time, I can say that I like the west better because there is more to do and is way prettier. Although my parents live in Florida now and that place is awesome.
Passion
As I said, skiing has been a main hobby for me and my family since I was 2, but at the age of 15 I discovered my most important passion…music. It all started when I heard the song “Wish You Were Here” by Pink Floyd. I fell in love with the intro to that song and knew I wanted to be able to play it. I picked up the guitar that was collecting dust in the basement and went to YouTube. After about a year of YouTube lessons and consistent practice, I was an intermediate, I could play a bunch of songs, but not great. This is around when my music taste started to develop into a heavier state. I started listening to Metallica and then Pantera. At this point I was in a band with 3 friends from high school and we wanted to play our first show. It was a grind to prepare for, but we pulled it off and played in front of our whole grade in our other guitarists backyard on a stage we build with wooden pallets. Now that have a taste for playing live we don’t plan on stopping. Our name is Shrump and you can find our music on SoundCloud @Shrump. Also check out a picture of our show on the Gallery
